Every time I open Samsung Messages, it prompts me to “upgrade” to Google Messages, but I’m not sure why. I heard that Samsung won’t be including their messaging app on newer Galaxy devices, but I don’t see the reason to switch if I still have it.
There are already so many threads about this. Please search for “Samsung Messages vs. Google Messages,” and you’ll find plenty of responses that should clarify the situation.
It’s RCS, that’s the key. I prefer Samsung Messages, but with iOS finally getting RCS too, it makes things easier. I’m in the US, so WhatsApp isn’t widely used among the people I interact with.
Google Messages can currently use RCS with iOS devices, Samsung Messages lacks that feature. If you have people in your life with iPhones, you’re going to continue to have the worse texting experience using Samsung Messages over Google Messages.
I have family on iOS 18 sending me things, I send them on Samsung messages as RCS and receive messages and media in HD, and it also shows read/typing indicators. Google messages does that too, so it seems pointless for me to switch or “upgrade” when Samsung messages is already capable of communicating with other RCS devices
