I’m planning to switch to Samsung to replace my old iPhone XS Max. I’m not looking to buy a flagship Samsung phone yet. I need a budget Samsung phone that outperforms my old iPhone XS Max. I do some mobile gaming, so I would like it to perform a little better than my XS Max and have more than 4GB of RAM. Any suggestions would be great
Buying a budget phone after using an iPhone might not be a great choice. Samsung makes excellent phones, but you might feel let down without getting a flagship. If I were you, I would consider getting an older flagship to save some cash.
@Oli
I agree. The S20 or S21+ or Ultra could be a good middle ground. Just avoid the 22 series. If you can find a new unlocked one, that would be great.
The A55 is a solid choice
I think the A55 is probably the best option

Doesn’t that have the Exynos processor? Why suggest that? If you can’t get a Snapdragon-powered Samsung phone, it might be best to skip Samsung altogether. One UI can be heavy on Exynos.
@Hartley
Have you ever used any Exynos device? Come on.
@Hartley
I own one, and I moved down from an S10 Lite with the Snapdragon processor. This Exynos processor is pretty good in my opinion.

That’s nice, but I have an A30 and A50, and both lag.
@Hartley
No kidding, the A30 is going to lag since it’s 5 years old and lower midrange.

It was laggy from the start. Being lower midrange isn’t an excuse for lag, even when the device is new. I got an A30 and a Redmi Note 8 Pro at the same time, both in the same price range. The A30 lagged from day one, while the Redmi worked really well for three years.
@Hartley
That sucks.
@Hartley
You can’t compare the A50 with something that’s 4 phones older.
@Hartley
The Exynos in the A55 performs pretty well.
What is your budget for this phone
The A55 is great, but if you’re looking for a powerful budget Android, you might want to check out Xiaomi. The A55 or A54 are both solid options.

Are there any big differences between the A55 and A54
@Zane
Well, the A55 is a generation newer. It has a bit more RAM, is slightly faster, and has better battery life overall. The difference isn’t huge though. The A54 is more budget-friendly since it’s the previous generation and was praised for being great value. If you can get an A54 for half the price of an A55, I’d go for that since it’s an amazing deal. If the price difference isn’t much for you, maybe consider the A55.

The A35 is pretty much an A54 but a little simplified. Also, if the Pixel 8 is on discount, it’s a fantastic deal too.
The A55 with Exynos runs smoothly. It even feels quick with animations turned off. If you find an international variant at a good price like I did, go for it. I have an S24 Plus, and the A55 is my backup since I work far from home and need a reliable spare. I tried the A55 for a few days, and it’s about 90% of what the S24 Plus offers, but at 20% of the price. Battery life is fantastic. If it had wireless charging, it would be perfect and even have a microSD card slot.
