I have a 2-year-old S22+ and its battery is poor, so I’m thinking about getting a new phone.
I’m deciding between two used options:
S24+ Exynos: 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, from March 2024, $700
S23+ Snapdragon: 8GB RAM, 512GB storage, from May 2024, $786
I’m unsure whether to choose the newer model at a lower price or the older model at a higher price. I know the S23 has a Snapdragon chip, which is usually better than Exynos, but the S24 is cheaper.
The S23 is usually my preferred Samsung series, but with the price difference, the S24+ is a better deal. You get the latest version and six years of updates at a lower cost. While there might be some heating issues and performance differences, these are minor compared to the benefits of the newer model. Both phones are also much better optimized than your current S22+, so either should work well for you.
From what I’ve observed, the S24+ is significantly faster than the S23+. Geekbench scores show it’s about 500 points better in single-core performance and over 1,000 points better in multi-core performance.
No, the Exynos is fine. In fact, if you’re mostly using Wi-Fi, the Exynos might be faster. It performs slightly worse on LTE, but not drastically. From my experience, the Exynos 2400 doesn’t overheat during regular use, even with split-screen and other heavy tasks, as long as you’re not in direct sunlight.
Since the S24+ is both cheaper and newer, it seems like the obvious choice unless you need the extra storage. The S23+ doesn’t offer much of an advantage otherwise.
While the Exynos 2400 is not as good as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it’s still better than the Gen 2. It might use a bit more power, but it also has a slightly larger battery.
So, with the S23+, you’re paying $86 more for extra storage. With the S24+, you get a more powerful processor, more RAM, a better screen, longer software updates, and save $86.
The S24+ is the better deal if you plan to keep the phone longer. But, for the storage capacity the S24 FE may be a better deal if you can wait another month.
