So what's the deal with RCS messages? Should I be worried?

So, Samsung Messages is supposed to stop supporting RCS soon, but I still don’t really get the point. Every time I send a message, it either says SMS (for one person) or MMS (for group chats or photos). Am I really benefiting from RCS in any way? Should I just switch to Google Messages now? Can someone explain?

If you can react with emojis, then that’s RCS.

Okay, I can’t react with emojis, so I guess I don’t need to switch, right?

Unless you’re okay with Chinese companies possibly reading your messages…

@Tate
What if we don’t care about that?

Just switch to Google Messages. It’s much better.

If you use Samsung Messages to talk to people a lot, then RCS is pretty useful. But if you just use it for OTPs and that’s it, you technically don’t need RCS. Even though I don’t use RCS, I still won’t be switching to Google Messages.

Pretty sure Samsung is making everyone with older devices switch to Google Messages, even if they don’t want to.

RCS lets you see when someone’s typing, whether they’ve read your message, react with emojis, and other cool features. Samsung Messages does RCS, but only with other Samsung users. If your friend uses another app, like Google Messages or something, you won’t be able to use RCS with them. Google Messages works better with all phones, even iPhones, so Samsung gave up on RCS for their app.

RCS is basically a much better version of SMS, it’s better in every way.

I don’t even know what RCS is, but I’ve been getting messages from people saying they can’t send me anything because of some RCS error. Just tell them to send it through normal SMS or MMS.

Yeah, there’s some issue with RCS on Google’s end right now.

You haven’t been using RCS. It lets you send high-quality photos and videos, edit your messages, see when someone’s read them, see when they’re typing, and more. You should switch to Google Messages to get all that.

RCS has a ton of extra features, like sending bigger files, seeing when someone reads your message, and knowing when they’re replying (you can turn these off though if you don’t want anyone to see). You can also react with emojis. I switched to Google Messages over a year ago because it worked better than Samsung Messages, and I haven’t looked back.

I switched to Google Messages like five years ago. There’s really no reason to stick with Samsung Messages anymore.
