Hey everyone, I need some help. I’m replacing my old, super laggy phone, and I’ve been eyeing the S23 and S24 (both 8/256). They’re priced about the same in my area during Black Friday deals. I’ve read that the S23 might actually perform better than the newer S24 in some areas. The S24 has that Exynos chip, and I’ve seen people say it lags, especially during scrolling. Is that really true? Is the S23 still the better pick? Let me know what you think—this is a big upgrade for me, and I don’t want to regret spending 700–800 euros on the wrong one.
I’d go with the S24 for sure. It’s newer, the GPU is stronger, and battery life is very close. Plus, it’s going to have longer software support.
My S24 doesn’t lag at all, even in light performance mode. Battery life is okay—not great. It lasts me about 19–21 hours off the charger with 4–5 hours of screen time. If I push it to 6–7 hours of screen time, the total runtime drops to 10–15 hours. I don’t use 5G since my carrier limits speeds unless I pay for their unlimited plan.

That’s good to know! I typed this on my A34, which barely lags. My S24 is charging right now.

Thanks! I switched from an A52s to the S24 after my A52s died. Honestly, if the A52s hadn’t died, I wouldn’t have upgraded. The differences aren’t huge, but the overall experience is definitely better. The biggest upgrades for me are the camera and screen size.
I’d recommend the S24. The Exynos chip is much better than in past years, and you’ll get seven years of software support. The S23 will only get a couple more updates.
I have an S23 that I got refurbished during a sale. It’s a great phone, but battery life could be better. I use my phone a lot, so I carry a power bank just in case.
I replaced the battery recently, and now it feels like a brand-new phone.
One thing I love is that the base models are a good size—not too big. If I were you, I’d consider trying both phones and keeping the one you like best.
@Shawn
Which would you recommend as a primary phone under $1000? I have a Pixel 8 now, but I’m considering switching to Samsung. My Watch 4 would pair better with a Samsung phone, and Pixel lacks features like call recording and a proper AR ruler. I’ve also heard mixed things about Exynos and Snapdragon. What’s the best option: S19, S20, S23, or S24?
@Bryce
Snapdragon versions of the S21 and S22 also had battery and heat issues. The S23 and S24 fixed those problems. Between the two, the S24 is a better choice for performance and resale value since it’ll be supported longer.
@Bryce
I agree. If the S24 is the same price as the S23, go for the newer one.
The S23 might still be worth it. I’ve noticed my S24’s battery drains fast even after trying all the usual battery-saving tips. It’s frustrating for a flagship phone.
If they’re priced the same, the S24 is a better deal. You get a faster chip, better efficiency, and longer software support.
The S24 just feels better to use than the older models like the S22 and S23. Everything runs smoother. With all the deals going on now, it’s a great time to buy.
I just ordered the S24 Ultra. I’ve always been an iPhone user, so this will be my first Android. Let’s see how it goes!

I’m talking about the base S23 and S24, not the Ultra versions.

If you miss some iPhone features, try using Nova Launcher to customize the interface. Also, GoodLock from the Samsung store is great for tweaking the UI further.

Great choice! If you prefer iPhone-style emojis, use the Zfont3 app to change them. The default Samsung emojis aren’t great.

I switched from iPhone recently too. After 20 years with Apple, I sold all my devices and got an Android. No regrets so far!
