My phone is basically done for... what now?

So you won’t believe this, I tried to play Project Sekai on my 6-year-old Samsung S7 EDGE. It’s been a solid phone for a long time, but it started lagging. That was around 7 PM, and now it’s 4 AM, and the phone still won’t turn on. I’m thinking of just letting the battery die, but I can’t even get it to turn on. What should I do?

That was my first Samsung phone. It worked great for me back in the day.

Try plugging in the charger and holding all the buttons down for a few seconds until it vibrates. If that doesn’t work, try using a different cable or charger.

  • Try holding the power button for over 8 seconds.
  • You could also try plugging it in and holding the power button.

Nothing’s working no matter what I try.

I have to say, using a 2016 device is impressive. Many people upgrade even when they don’t really need to.

This might be a battery or hardware issue, considering how old the phone is and that it won’t turn on after trying the usual methods.

@Greer
It was a gift from my parents, so I haven’t really felt the need for a new one yet. But yeah, I’ll have it checked when I can, everything around me is closed for Christmas.

Try holding power + home + volume down. If a blue screen shows up, press the volume down button. Also, does it show anything when you try plugging it into a computer?

Nothing’s working… and I don’t have access to a computer right now.

@Blaise
I guess I was lucky. Both my S7 and S7 Edge are still working fine, except for a bloated battery in my regular S7.

I guess yours have Samsung chips that last longer (and if you have an SD card to take some of the load off, that helps). OP’s phone probably has a Samsung chip too, since it lasted this long, unlike those with SK hynix chips that start crashing after 3-4 years.

I think it might be due to Oreo, since Oreo runs poorly on Snapdragon 820 phones.

They’re known for this problem, so I’m surprised it took this long to catch up to you.

Yeah, that’s rough… but honestly, I’ve got bigger problems than a dead phone right now.

@Ashton
If it lasted this long, it likely has a Samsung chip instead of an SK hynix one. Hopefully, you’ve learned about the importance of SD cards. Not just for data safety, but also to ease the load on the UFS storage.
