My girlfriend’s Samsung TV is old, remote doesn’t work… which one should I get?

I found the original remote online for £50, but I’m sure I can find something cheaper somewhere.

A cheaper alternative is a universal remote, but you won’t have all the functions you need to set up the TV. That’s the issue with universal remotes. If you can, get the original, even if it’s used.

But would the basic functions still work? Like switching HDMI between the console and TV, volume control? That’s mainly what we use. Most of the TV stuff we do on Xbox apps anyway.

@Fisher
I get it, but with a universal remote, something might stop working later on and you’ll be stuck. That’s why I always recommend the original one. If you go for cheap, you might regret it when things break down.

Would you be interested in using an Android app to control the TV over Wi-Fi?

I’m open to options! Would this app work with my girlfriend’s older TV? I’ve never used an Android app for this before, so what does it do exactly?
