Hey everyone I just got a Samsung Galaxy S10+ tablet... I set it up and left it on for 4 days before turning it off. Now it’s completely dead should I be worried?

I noticed that when I plugged it in, it showed this circle with a lightning bolt inside for about 20 seconds before it started charging with only 1% on the screen. Is that normal?

It’s normal for tablets and phones to use up a lot of battery at first, especially while setting up. It’s working at full power for a while to get everything set up.

So, if it went to 0% that’s fine right? Should I just charge it up to 80% and leave it at that?

@Tatum
Yeah, that’s fine. If the battery didn’t drain the first day, that would have been odd. It’s a good idea to leave it plugged in and let it charge to 80% while it’s syncing and downloading stuff, just to be safe.

When the battery fully drains and then starts charging, it’s totally fine. That lightning symbol is normal. Just use a fast charger so the circle goes away faster.

I was just worried about the battery’s life. I don’t want to ruin it since it was expensive haha.

Sounds pretty normal. If the battery drains all the way to zero, it’ll show that lightning symbol for a while before starting to show a percentage. Once you charge it fully, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the reassurance! Should I charge it to 80% or all the way to 100%?

@Tatum
Charging to 100% is fine if you’re going to use it soon. It’s actually better to let it go to 100% and completely discharge a couple of times. Modern devices are smart enough to stop overcharging. But if you’re not using it for a while, charging to 80% is best.

@Morgan
Charging it to anywhere between 80-100% is fine if you’re storing it for a bit. Just turn it off while you’re not using it so it doesn’t drain. If you leave it plugged in, make sure the battery protection is set to stop at 80%.

As others have mentioned, this is likely because your tablet is new and hasn’t fully set up yet. After a couple of weeks of use, battery life should improve.

Is your tablet 4G/5G capable, or just Wi-Fi? If it’s only Wi-Fi, it shouldn’t drain completely in 4 days just from sitting there. My S8+ lasts way longer even if I don’t use it much. Maybe something in your tablet is running in the background without you knowing. Try rebooting it and checking if there’s a firmware update.
