I didn’t know much about eSIMs until I started reading about them. I also didn’t realize that my Galaxy S24 Ultra has eSIM support. Now, I’m thinking of activating it to use two separate numbers. For those who have tried it, has it been useful for you? Is it worth paying for an extra line?
I’m using 2 physical SIMs and 5 eSIMs from different network providers. It’s very useful when I need to switch between networks for different reasons. But keep in mind, you can only have 1 active physical SIM (in slot 1) and 1 eSIM at a time. If you activate your SIM slot 2, no eSIMs can be used, and vice versa. I’m using the S22 Ultra, so the setup may differ on the S24.
@Wylie
The S24 Series can support two eSIMs at the same time!

So, you can have two eSIMs running, or is it two eSIMs with the physical SIM turned off?

Yes, you can have two eSIMs running, and the physical SIM will be disabled.
@Wynne
That’s great! I wouldn’t need to keep one of my carriers on a physical SIM anymore. My Galaxy S20 Plus only allows dual SIM if the physical SIM is activated.
@Wynne
You can have several eSIM profiles, but only two lines can be active at once.

That’s definitely a game-changer.
Samsung has supported eSIM for a few years (the S20 was the first). But the S24 series is the first to allow two eSIMs to run at the same time. Previously, you needed at least one physical SIM to use dual SIM.
@Monty
The first phone with eSIM support out of the box was the S21 series, and the S20 in the U.S. only got eSIM support with a software update in 2022. So, the feature was there, just turned off at first.
eSIM has been around since the S20 series. I used it when traveling internationally, either for the whole trip or until I bought a cheap local SIM. eSIM is useful, especially if you want two lines, or if you want to try a new carrier with eSIM trials. But if you use more than one phone, eSIM isn’t the best.
Yes, eSIM makes traveling so much easier. I don’t miss having to buy a local SIM card from some sketchy vendor at the airport anymore.
I use my S24 Ultra for work, and whenever I travel, I activate an eSIM from a local carrier to get cheaper data rates.
I prefer physical SIMs. They work fine for me.
I use multiple numbers for different purposes—data, spam, work, etc. Switching between them has never been easier.
I started with a physical SIM from T-Mobile. Later, I added a month of Mint service with an eSIM. I could easily switch between the two in the settings. After that month, I stuck with Mint and just turned off the original physical SIM. It’s still in my phone but doesn’t cause any issues.
I use one physical SIM and one eSIM. One has cheaper data plans, and the other is used for mobile payments nationwide. I had the same setup on my iPhone, but the eSIM wasn’t working well due to the local network. Here, the eSIM feature works well, and it’s cheap too. It also saves the second SIM slot for when I need it while traveling, though the eSIM has to be turned off in that case.
My primary SIM is an eSIM. I used to have two, but I stopped using the second one since it wasn’t practical in the long run.
Yes, I have a backup data SIM as an eSIM on my S24 Ultra. You can’t have two eSIMs at the same time, though.
I have my original number and another eSIM number for business. I have a Samsung S21. It’s been great because I have different rings and backgrounds for each line so I know which one is calling. My issue is finding a messaging app that lets me separate messages for the two lines. Right now, I’m using Handcent because Samsung is pushing Google messages, but I don’t like it.
