I’m thinking about getting the Galaxy ring as a gift. My wife loves gadgets, but she already has the latest phone and watch. Does the ring offer anything extra?
No, it doesn’t really add much. But if she wants to track her sleep or steps without needing to wear the watch (a lot of people don’t like wearing it to bed), the ring would be a great option.
It does if it’s for love.

She’s already his wife. At this point, it might be an unnecessary purchase.
If she’s fine with the size of the watch, a ring won’t add much. It doesn’t have as many features as the watch, but it’s cooler and more comfortable to wear.

So it’s more like a ‘I don’t want to wear the watch’ kind of thing?
@Bret
Exactly, it’s for tracking sleep and steps without needing to charge it daily.
@Bret
Yep.
@Bret
I’m getting a ring because I already have an analog watch I like, and my work and school don’t allow smartwatches. It’s a good way to track steps, heart rate, etc., without the screen.
I heard the ring does a better job at measuring stuff than the watch since the wrist is one of the worst places to track things.

While the wrist isn’t ideal, the watch has been optimized really well. I’ll have to find the source again, but the Galaxy watch has a heart rate accuracy of 95-99%, while the ring is only around 70-75%. That means a quarter of the time it could be wrong. The sleep tracking is no better.
But the Galaxy watch has a heart rate accuracy of 95-99%, and the ring has 70-75%. Huh?

Are you confused by the wording? To put it simply, the ring isn’t as reliable as the watch.
@Ren
Got it!
I’ve read that if you have both the watch and the ring, Samsung actually uses information from both to improve accuracy.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the ring doesn’t really offer anything the Fold and watch can’t already do. The only reason to get it would be if she wants to track her sleep but finds the watch too big or uncomfortable.
I’m keeping my ring though. I’m hoping the next version will have new features.
