I’m thinking about getting a decent Android phone for daily use, but I have a limited budget. A close friend of mine, who recently moved to the USA in August, bought a Galaxy S22+ there (Snapdragon variant). He used it for about 3 months and now plans to return to Dhaka in mid-December.
He offered to sell it to me since he’s facing some financial issues and knows I’m looking for a phone. I’ve posted about this in other places, and most people suggested avoiding it due to issues like overheating and green lines on the screen.
What do you all think about this phone? Is it worth buying second-hand if the price is fair?
@Wade
From my experience, the S22 series has great cameras. My family usually prefers using my phone for pictures during events, even over their newer iPhones. It should be an upgrade from your Pixel 5A.
I’ve been using an S22+ for two months (bought it refurbished), and it’s been great so far. My previous phone was a Samsung A10, so this is a big upgrade. The camera is solid, and the battery lasts me all day.
Just a heads-up: you might face some issues with heat and battery life. The S22 series had mixed reviews on those fronts, but it really depends on how you use your phone. Maybe check out user experiences online before deciding.
What’s the price your friend is asking for? It’s a decent phone, but keep in mind that you’ll only get two more years of software updates. Look into local deals for second-hand options too—if his price is way below market, then it could be worth it.
@Tatum
He bought it for 32K in the US, and locally, second-hand ones sell for around 40–45K. He’s offering it to me for 26–27K, which seems like a good deal.
I’ve had my S22+ for over two years now, and honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it, even at a discount. The battery life and performance vary a lot depending on the unit you get. Mine has been pretty bad—throttling, poor battery life (3 hours screen time max), and overheating during even light tasks.
It’s worth noting that software updates for this phone are running out soon. It’ll get Android 15 and maybe one more update after that. I’ve also heard about the green line issue but haven’t experienced it myself yet.
If you’re okay with the potential risks, go ahead, but think carefully. Let me know if you have specific questions.
@Lin
Thanks for the detailed input! I’m not too worried about overheating since my Pixel 5A already gets really hot. I just want better camera quality and a more stable phone overall.
